MSSC STRUGGLE REPORT (서울, 南朝鮮, 5.15/16)

First of all the bad news: Immigration officers, together with cops are intensifying the crackdown – alone last week on one day, Thursday, May 13, in Ansan they captured at least 60 migrants out off factories. Under the captured migrant workers are several migrant workers who were at least active participating in past demonstrations, we organized. In Seoul they arrested one ex-member of MSSC (Myeong-dong Sit-in Struggle Collective). Again, Immigration and police should keep in their f… mind: NOTHING WILL BE FORGOTTEN, NOTHING WILL BE FORGIVEN!! Before yesterday, on Saturday, May 15, together with activists of “Struggle and Rice” (투쟁과 밥) one representative of MSSC participated on the event to celebrate the International Conscientious Objectors' Day (articles you can read here and here). The main motto: Bring the soldiers home. By the way: On June 5 (Saturday) there will be a Day of International Emergency Protest under the same motto, initiated by A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition (for more details read this. WE SHOULD JOIN IT WITH A MASSIVE ACT OF RESISTANCE HERE!!!). Here you'll find new arguments why Korean troops have to come back NOW. Back in Myeong-dong we got visitors from U.S. based International Action Center, they want to write something about our struggle in WORKERS WORLD. Ha, really funny: just some days before we wrote them a letter, requesting a kind of support… (and of course we got no answer until now...) Yesterday, we, together with other solidarity groups, made a solidarity visit in Ilsan/Pung-dong. We already, beside many others, wrote about the struggle there against to be expelled from their homes without to get any appropriate compensation for the future. While we offered workshops, some other comrades cooked a kind of Korean pancake for all – very delicious. In talks with the struggling activists we’d to learn how strong they are… They are complete “ordinary” people, but they were/are fighting against police (the f… cops tried to block us to enter the area in the beginning) and gangster gangs, hired by the construction company which want to build new apartment houses there (an article with more details about their struggle, the reasons and the possible future you’ll get during the next days)! Just strange! In this situation our duty has to be: JOIN THEIR STRUGGLE!!! Here you'll find the last article (the second here) in Europe about us. 먼저 나쁜 소식: 출입국 직원들이 경찰과 함께 단속을 강화했다. 지난 주 목요(5월 13일)에는 안산 지역에서만 60명이 넘는 노동자들을 잡아갔다. 잡혀간 이주노동자들 중에는 이주노동자 집회에 적극적으로 참여한 동지들도 포함되어 있다. 서울에서는 예전에 명동농성팀의 멤버였던 한명도 잡혀갔다. 다시 말하건데, 출입국과 경찰은 다음을 꼭 명심해야 할 것이다: 우리는 절대 잊지 않는다, 절대 용서하지 않는다! 5월 15일 토요일에는 투쟁과 밥 활동가들과 함께 명동농성팀을 대표해서 국제 양심적 병역 거부자의 날을 기념하는 행사에 참여했다. 주요 모토는 “군인들을 집으로!”였다. 6월 5일에는 똑같은 모토를 내걸고 A.N.S.W.E.R 연대가 조직하는 ‘국제 비상 집회의 날’이 예정되어 있다.(자세한 사항은 http://www.answercoalition.org/ 이러한 대중적인 집회에 우리도 반드시 참여해야 한다!) 다음 글http://www.newyorker.com/fact/content/?040524fa_fact)에는 왜 한국 군대가 이라크에서 철수해야 하고, 추가파병을 해서는 안되는지에 대해 새로운 주장이 제기되어 있다. 명동으로 돌아오니 미국을 기반으로 한 ‘국제 행동 센터’에서 사람들이 방문해 있었다. 우리에게 '노동자의 세상‘이라는 사이트에 우리의 투쟁에 대해 글을 써달라고 부탁했는데, 재밌는 건 바로 며칠 전에 그들에게 연대와 지지를 요청하는 편지를 써 보냈었다. (물론 지금까지 답장이 없다... ) 어제(일요일) 다른 연대 그룹들과 함께 일산 풍동을 방문했다. 이전에도 몇 차례 이들의 상황에 대한 기사를 쓴 일이 있는데, 이들은 현재 미래에 대한 적절한 보상도 없이 무조건 ‘개발’을 이유로 자신들의 집을 부수려고 하는 정부와 주택공사를 상대로 힘찬 투쟁을 벌이고 있다. 한쪽에서는 대안달거리대 만들기 워크샵이 진행되는 동안, 부엌에서는 맛있는 부침개를 부쳤다. 그곳 철거대책위원회분들과 얘기를 나누면서, 그들이 얼마나 강고한지를 느낄 수 있었다. 영웅도 아니고 이름난 투사도 아닌, 이 ‘보통’사람들이 경찰과 용역깡패에 맞서 싸우는 모습은 정말 눈물겹도록 감동스럽다. 앞으로도 이들에 대해 지속적으로 보도할 생각이다. 다음 사이트에 들어가면 해외에서 보도된 이주노동자 투쟁에 대한 최신 기사를 읽을 수 있다.
